Filippino Lippi (um 1457-1504) begegnen wir hier auch in der Cappella Brancacci, Santo Spirito und in der Cappella Strozzi. Dieses Andachtsbild malt er in seinen frühen Jahren. Noch steht er unter dem Einfluss Botticellis. In dem verbreiteten Bildtypus kümmert sich Maria nicht mütterlich um ihr Kind, sondern betet es an als Sohn Gottes. Die horizontal begrenzte Blumenfläche erinnert an Leonardos frühe Verkündigung.
Filippino Lippi can also be seen here in the Cappella Brancacci, Santo Spirito and Santa Maria Novella. He painted this devotional picture in his early years. He was still under the influence of Botticelli. In this widespread type of painting, Mary is not motherly caring for her child, but worshipping him as the Son of God. The horizontally delimited area of flowers is reminiscent of Leonardo’s early Annunciation.

Der heilig gesprochene Bernhard von Clairvaux (um 1090-1153) ist einer der großen Mystiker, Verehrer der Muttergottes und Kirchenlehrer des Mittelalters. In felsiger Landschaft steht ihm die jugendliche Maria in Begleitung von vier hinreißenden Engeln unvermittelt vor Augen. Schönheit und Eleganz, erlesene Farbigkeit sowie Lebendigkeit der gesamten Darstellung machen das Bild zu einem Meisterwerk des Künstlers. Zugleich ist es auch ein Höhepunkt der florentinischen Frührenaissance. Auftraggeber ist der Kunstmäzen Piero del Pugliese (1430-1498) unten rechts. Ein kleiner Teufel versucht darüber seine Kette zu zerbeißen.
The canonized Bernard of Clairvaux (around 1090-1153) is one of the great mystics, devotees of the Virgin Mary and Doctors of the Church of the Middle Ages. In a rocky landscape, a youthful Mary accompanied by four enchanting angels suddenly appears before his eyes. The beauty and elegance, exquisite use of color and vividness of the entire depiction make this painting a masterpiece by the artist. At the same time, it is also a highlight of the early Florentine Renaissance. It was commissioned by the patron of the arts Piero del Pugliese (1430-1498) at the bottom right. A little devil is trying to bite his necklace.
Maria und Bernhard im Zwiegespräch mit neugierigen Engeln
Der Abt ist im Freien ins Schreiben vertieft, hinter ihm ein Stillleben aus Büchern. Da steht plötzlich die Jungfrau Maria in ruhiger Hoheit vor ihm und weist mit ihrer Rechten auf eine Textstelle, die wohl zu verbessern ist. Der hl. Abt blickt ehrfurchtsvoll auf und scheint mit sprechender Handgebärde seine Auffassung zu erläutern.
The abbot is absorbed in writing outdoors, with a still life of books behind him. Suddenly the Virgin Mary stands before him in calm majesty and points with her right hand to a passage in the text that probably needs to be corrected. The holy abbot looks up reverently and seems to explain his view with a speaking gesture.
